Savages

One more British band and we'll call it a day.  This is not my style anymore but the guitar and beat reminds me of Dead Kennedys and her voice is so Siouxsie & the Banshees. Savages is an all-female post-punk band from London.  They're getting coverage on blogs and are playing Coachella so there will be lots of buzz during SXSW.  Their looks won't hurt.  Check out the video for this song.

Husbands

Chvrches

We'll stick with Northern Great Britain for this preview, too.  This is a band from Glasgow.  This song was chosen for the BBC Songs of 2013 list.  They opened for Passion Pit on some of their tour last year.

Little Green Cars

Here's a nice country-rock song from a band out of Dublin.  Here's a good article on them in the Guardian.  Looks like they're being groomed to follow in the footsteps of Mumford and Sons.  Probably will want to catch them soon.

Gregory Alan Isakov

A little Ryan Adams sound for you.  Well, maybe a lot.  This guy was born in South Africa, raised in Philly, and now lives in Colorado.  I haven't listened to anything else but this song is pretty.

If I Go, I'm Goin

My Jerusalem

Here's a band based here in Austin now.  An indie-Supergroup made of of members of Bishop Allen, Polyphonic Spree, Twilight Singers, and Great Northern.  Not a bad combination.  This song is pretty good.  I heard it on KUTX last week so I guess they're getting some airplay.

Fossil Collective

Just heard this one and liked it.  It's a duo from Leeds.  I think this summary from last.fm states it pretty well: " Their first recordings saw them taking inspiration from classic albums by Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac and Simon and Garfunkel and suggested comparisons with more contemporary artists such as Fleet Foxes, Midlake and Bon Iver."

Listen.  You'll like it.

Let it Go

DIIV

This is the band that will probably be most difficult to see.  Their album was on many top10 lists last year and they're already scheduled for Coachella.  I'm sure they'll be at ACL, too.  I really like the album. It's a mix of Real Estate, REM, and Joy Division.  I'd like to check them out.

Dan Croll

First on the playlist is Dan Croll. He's from Liverpool and his sound is indie pop.  Paul McCartney gives him a thumbs up.  He's on the Slacker "Artists to Watch in 2013" as well.

A new system: SXSW playlist

I'm going to try something different this year.  Instead of posting mp3s of songs with my previews I'm going to link to the song on Spotify.  I will also update a Spotify playlist of all the songs as I preview them.  This way you can listen to one song at a time or listen to the whole stream whenever you want.  Since Spotify is available on everyone's phone and computer hopefully this will make it easier.  It also keeps me out of trouble with the copyright police.

So, here is the link to the Spotify playlist.  You should be able to click the link and subscribe to it in Spotify.  The is also on the sidebar to the right. Just click and start listening.  One drawback to Spotify is that I can't sort the playlist based on preference so the order is just random.  I'll highlight some of my favorites here, though.

You can stream and/or download the songs for offline listening (I think you need a premium account to do that, though).

Here's an example of a link to a song.

Below is the song using Spotify in the post:

SXSW 2013 Kickoff

I know, it's getting closer.  I'm looking for some motivation to start the process so I thought I'd try the crowdsourcing method this year.  I need your help.  Here are a few spotify playlists I've found that have music from bands playing SXSW 2013.  Feel free to listen and when you find a band/song you like let me know so I can share it.

SXSW Picks- This one looks pretty good.
